Feel More, Freeze Less
It doesn't help that my face isn't make for poker, couple that with the realisaton halfway through a meeting that my reaction didn’t quite match the situation—yep, that awkward moment when your inner voice has a mind of its own. It’s a reminder that improving emotional awareness isn’t about suppressing feelings, it’s about noticing them early enough to respond thoughtfully rather than react automatically.
Over time, I’ve seen how tuning into emotions—my own and others’—changes everything. It helps you pause instead of jump, ask instead of assume, and connect instead of dictate. It makes feedback clearer, conversations calmer, and decisions better informed. Leaders who notice the subtle cues, who can step back and reflect before responding, create teams that feel seen, heard, and supported.
Of course, it’s not instant. Emotional awareness is a practice, not a switch. Some days it’s a tiny win; other days it’s a learning curve full of “aha” moments—and occasionally, a chuckle at your own reactions.
How do you keep in touch with your emotions while leading others? I’d love to hear your reflections and stories.
