Tensions Welcome

So many times I have sat with leaders who tell me they just want “less conflict”. I always smile because I remember feeling exactly the same early in my career. Conflict made my stomach tighten. I worried it meant something was wrong or that I had failed somehow. Over time I learned that what really drains teams is not conflict… it is the fear of it.

Strong teams do not tiptoe around disagreement. They embrace it because they know it is part of progress. The real danger is not the clash itself. It is what happens when leaders ignore it or handle it with a heavy hand.

When conflict is dodged, resentment grows quietly in the background. When it is mishandled, trust gets chipped away. Yet when leaders create room for honest, healthy challenge something energising happens. Ideas get sharper. Creativity picks up pace. Teams become braver together.

This is where coaching becomes such a transformative space. I support leaders to invite different perspectives without fear. To guide conversations so they stay constructive not combustible. To step in early before friction turns sour. Leaders who learn to host good fights do not just reduce conflict. They turn it into a strategic asset.

Because conflict in the right conditions is not destructive. It is fuel. Fuel for clearer decisions, stronger relationships and teams that can truly grow.

If you want to build a team that disagrees well then let’s talk
