Hold the Line
I’ve noticed something about myself over the years.
I’m very good at saying yes…
even when I don’t really mean it.
“Yes, that’s fine”
“Yes, I can take that on”
“Yes, just send it over”
All said with good intent and slightly crossed fingers, because the truth is, most boundary issues aren’t dramatic
They’re quiet, polite, well-meaning
They sound like:
“I’ll just squeeze it in”
“It won’t take long”
“It’s easier if I do it”
Until, slowly, your week fills up with things you didn’t consciously choose
There’s something mildly ridiculous about it when you step back
We protect our calendars like they’re scarce resources then give them away in 30-second conversations
So here’s the small shift I’ve been practising:
Pause before the automatic yes
Not a big speech
Not a hard no
Just a moment to decide
Because boundaries aren’t about being difficult, they’re about being deliberate
If this resonates, try it once this week
Notice the moment before you say yes
and choose it
