When "Help" seems to be the hardest word
Asking for help can feel harder than pushing through on your own.
I hear this from leaders all the time: “I should be able to handle this myself.” Whether it’s the weight of responsibility, fear of looking weak or simply being used to being the one others turn to — reaching out isn’t easy.
hat’s why I often get asked: what’s the difference between coaching and counselling?
The truth is, there are similarities: both provide a safe, confidential space to talk openly, reflect and gain perspective. Both can help you feel less alone in whatever you’re facing.
The difference lies in the focus,
Counselling often looks back — helping someone understand and process experiences that are affecting them now.
Coaching looks forward — supporting someone to navigate challenges, unlock strengths and move toward the future they want to create. Counselling helps you understand the map you’ve travelled. Coaching is like having a satnav for where you want to go next.
Neither is about “fixing” you. Both are about giving you space, support and tools to move through what you’re facing.
One thing I remind leaders: asking for help isn’t weakness. It’s actually one of the strongest choices you can make.
If you’ve been wondering whether coaching could help, even for just one specific challenge, I’d love to have a to have a conversation.
